Footwear and Clothing

While you don't need specialised gear to enjoy Nordic Walking, the right attire can enhance your comfort and performance. The key is to wear comfortable clothing adapted to the weather.

Footwear (for walking on grass)

Opt for shoes rather than boots to allow natural movement. Footwear should be light with a flexible sole. A good grip is essential.

Clothing

Layer your clothing to adapt to changing weather conditions. Breathable fabrics will help regulate your body temperature, while a waterproof outer layer is essential for unexpected showers or for protection from the wind.

A pair of comfortable trousers or shorts allowing full movement is ideal. Jogging bottoms or leggings are fine too. Anything that fits comfortably and is appropriate for the temperature. Try to avoid cotton clothing/jeans which retain all the moisture.

Accessories

You may also need to bring additional items depending on the time of year or weather. e.g Hats, gloves, neck warmers and waterproofs to protect you from the cold, wind and rain.

In the summer, light breathable clothing to protect you from the heat with a hat/cap, sunscreen and sunglasses to protect from the sun. You may also need to consider insect repellent depending on the location, time of day or season.

Bag/rucksack

You may wish to carry a small bag to carry your essentials such as keys, phone etc.

A belt / bum bag is ideal but if you opt for a small rucksack (to carry layers/waterproofs), then please ensure it doesn’t impede your arm swing. A bag with a shoulder strap is not appropriate, even if worn across the body.

Don’t forget layers/ waterproofs can be tied around your waist, so you perhaps don’t require a rucksack.

So the key is to dress comfortably and enjoy the experience.
